Public Swimming Pools

Florida Department of Health in Broward County

Contact

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) permits and inspects public swimming pools to assure safety and sanitary requirements are met.

Before construction or modification of a public pool, written approval must be obtained from the appropriate building department. Construction and modification plans must be prepared, signed, and sealed by a professional engineer licensed in the state of Florida. Examples of modifications that require approval include non-equivalent changes or additions to filtration and treatment equipment or to the pool structure.

Before a newly constructed or modified pool is placed into service, an initial operating permit must be obtained, and the pool must receive a satisfactory operating inspection from DOH-Broward. Public swimming pools are inspected at least twice within the permit year in Broward County.
