(Broward County, FL) - As part of a new partnership to improve the health of our community, the
Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) and Save-a-lot Food Stores will team
up to deliver health services and health education to the community on a regular basis.

Starting on Friday, November 21, 2014, DOH-Broward will conduct educational events at two Save-alot
stores, to encourage the community to sign up for free mammograms, free pap smears, and free
and low-cost KidCare health insurance for children (schedule below).

Once a month, a mobile mammovan will come to the stores to give free mammograms to those with
appointments. Dates are not determined yet.

“We are pleased to join Save-a-lot in informing our community about these services, and to encourage
preventive health care,” says Dr. Paula Thaqi, MPH, MD, Director of DOH-Broward.

In the near future, DOH-Broward plans to expand the events at the two Fort Lauderdale-area stores to
include testing for HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. In addition, the Department
anticipates extending the effort to Save-a-lot’s two other stores, in the Hollywood area.

“Save-a-lot believes that promoting health and wellness is good for our customers and for the
community,” says Greg Mooridian, Director of Operations at the four Save-a-lot stores in Broward
County. “We are happy to make our stores available for this effort.”
