2016 Transgender Medical Symposium

 (FORT LAUDERDALE, FL) – The Florida Department of Health in Broward County and community partners will host the sixth annual Transgender Medical Symposium on Thursday and Friday May 12th and 13th, 2016.  The two-day Symposium is scheduled from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1100 SE 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale, 33316.  Registration is free, open to the public and is designed to educate providers, licensed professionals and their support staff.   CME's and CEU's will be available for licensed professionals (excluding physicians).

The Transgender Medical Symposium’s goal is to reduce barriers to care by providing basic quality healthcare education and encourage change in community norms by providing culturally sensitive and competent care.

The Symposium will provide three concurrent tracks for the community: Medical, Mental Health, and HIV and will address such issues as interaction for professionals, primary care and the Transgender patient, sexual health, Hepatitis , STI's,  HIV/AIDS,  mental health focus on gender identity and expression, gender confirmation surgery, best practices in Transgender healthcare and more.  Guest speakers and workshop leaders will include Therapist, Dr. Marilyn Volker, Transgender Author and Motivational Speaker, Kirstin Reichman, Dr. Christopher Salgado of the University of Miami, Kathy Doll, Maria Meja and Andii Viveros.
