(Fort Lauderdale, FL) – This Fall semester, Broward College commemorated its second anniversary as a Smoke and Tobacco Free Campus. All Broward College campuses located throughout Broward County have been established as smoke and tobacco free zones since 2015. This policy is inclusive of all tobacco and tobacco related products, including e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and smokeless tobacco.

Florida Department of Health in Broward (DOH-Broward) staff were present during welcome back events hosted at Broward College campuses to help raise awareness about the policy and the many effective local resources available to successfully quit. DOH-Broward’s Tobacco Prevention Program and Nova Southeastern University’s Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), worked closely with Broward College to adopt a tobacco free policy and a program to encourage its staff, vendors and students to develop a quit smoking plan. 

DOH-Broward and Tobacco Free Florida, in partnership with AHEC, offers free tobacco cessation resources and policy assistance to local organizations. Free toolkits are available from Tobacco Free Florida regarding the benefits of quitting tobacco and how to become a tobacco free workplace.
